Synopsis

Barrister Babu set in 1915’s, British India is an inspiring story of a husband & wife. Barrister Babu revolves around child bride Bondita Das who married Anirudh Roy Choudhary in her childhood and how Anirudh fights society for her education and helps make her a Barrister. At a time when women education was considered sinful, Anirudh educates Bondita and makes her the first “Barrister Babu” of their region.

Plot

Anirudh Roy Choudhary is a lawyer in England, he returns to his hometown Tulsipur (West Bengal, British India) after completing his studies in London and becoming a barrister. He is deeply concerned about the stereotypical and regressive rituals and customs that make India a backward country. Bondita Das is a curious and tyrant eight-year-old girl who has her own perspective of viewing the world. However, her point of view is not accepted by her family & the other group of people. Anirudh's family gets angered when they learn that he wants to remove the shackles of casteism from the country. Anirudh wants a change in the mindset of the people for a progressive future. Anirudh and Saudamini are childhood lovers. Their match has always been approved by their families. Bondita puts forth two conditions for marriage and writes a letter to her would-be husband stating that she would eat lots of sweets and would bring her mom along. By chance, this letter reaches Anirudh who appreciates the thinking and outlook of the girl who wrote that letter.

Anirudh, is a young lawyer from London, one day Anirudh gets an invitation to his childhood friend’s marriage therefore he attends the ceremony. Somehow Anirudh sees a girl marrying an old man. Anirudh stops the wedding of an eight-year-old girl, Bondita with an old man.

Bondita's groom is a sixty-year-old man who dies in between the wedding and the village people try to force Bondita to commit Sati. Bondita falls unconscious and Anirudh, in a bid to protect her life ends up marrying her. In this way In a bid to save the girl from becoming the victim of Sati, Anirudh marries a curious and tyrant girl Bondita. While Saudamni Feels Jealous and Decide to Separate Anirudh and Bondita.

At the time when women's education was considered sinful, Anirudh educates Bondita and makes her the first “Barrister Babu” of their region. When he is forced to marry her himself, he mentors her to fight for her rights.

Will their imperfect marriage turns into a successful relationship? Will Anirudh succeed in his mission to gain independence for his country?
